Situated approximately 6 kilometers east of the central business district of Dartmouth, the area takes its name from Cole Harbour, a natural harbour fronting the Atlantic Ocean. A short commute to central Dartmouth, Cole Harbour offers a rural/suburban lifestyle close to the Eastern Shore beaches and communities yet minutes to all amenities. Subdivision communities include Colby Village, Forest Hills, Highland Acres and Willowdale.

History: Cole Harbour was a prosperous, well cultivated market garden and dairy community serving the city of Halifax. It was known as the “bread basket” of Halifax/Dartmouth. The Cole Harbour Rural Heritage Society  operates the Cole Harbour Heritage Farm and is a wonderful resource of historical information.

Today: Cole Harbour is a popular community offering good schools, a wide range of outdoor activities and lifestyle choices. The centre of Cole Harbour is at the intersection of Forest Hills Parkway and Cole Harbour Road. The Forest Hills Parkway links the community to Highway 107, while Cole Harbour Road becomes Portland Street further to the west in Dartmouth and links to Highway 111.

Parks and Recreation: Cole Harbour enjoys an abundance of parks and trails and is also home to Cole Harbour Place, (the Home of Sidney Crosby,) a state-of-the-art multi-use facility. Rainbow Haven Beach, a Provincial Park, is located at the end of Bissett Road.
